Class 5.5 | The Meadows School

In 6^th form in class 5.5, we are working on a broad and varied curriculum, which includes ASDAN, Life skills Challenge Accreditation – where we work on a range of units suited to our individual needs, interests and which build on our life skills and independence – and these are at levels Working Towards Entry 1, Entry 1 and where some of us are now beginning to work at Entry 2 in some areas. We are also working on Titan Independence training, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in addition to our personal EHCP targets which are set following our reviews with you to meet our individual learning needs and provide sufficient challenge to develop our independence, communication, problem solving and reflection skills.

Also, we have the opportunity to take part in Attention Autism, Forest School, Drama and sports activities with WBA and our school sports coach. All of these areas help to prepare us for the pathway identified to take us on the next exciting phase of our lives as we prepare to leave The Meadows.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have introduced Google Classrooms as a platform to still be able to engage with students and families, provide learning activities and homework which is important to ensure as little learning time as possible is lost, in addition to maintaining contact with you all in the event of a school closure and to set weekly learning tasks to complete at home. If you have not already signed up to this, please do so at your earliest convenience – it really does make a difference! If you need any help with this, any other queries/concerns or just to share some of the amazing things your son/daughter is able to do, we love to hear from you by any of the following means:

Phone the school office – if we can’t come to the phone straight away, myself or one of the class team will return your call just as soon as we can.
Drop a note in the home/school diary and we will respond.

We don’t always get chance at the beginning and end of day to chat with you while we safely see our students into class but if you ask one of the team to contact you we will.
